New Programs Begin this Week

There are definite signs of fall all around. Between the cooler weather and the uptake in morning traffic as school begins, it is clear that this article is overdue. The fall schedule is out, finalized in July actually. While a copy is available at the circulation desk, new programming is only on the minds of library staff.

Let’s change that. Beginning with programs that require registration.

Art Attack was so successful this summer that Miss Maria will continue it on a monthly basis on the 2nd Saturday of the month. Registration was required this summer; however, it was really effective in helping her plan for each craft. Many people signed up for multiple dates in early June before chaos ensued, other plans were made, and the program was forgotten. To counter this, sign up is only available for the next program. That would be September 13th at 11:00 am. Registration may take place in person, on the phone, or online through our calendar feature. It must be done by the Monday before the program, which would be this Monday. (See what I mean by this article being overdue?)

Even over the phone or in person, we will enter patron information into the online calendar for several reasons. It will provide Miss Maria with a complete list including contact information and age of the participant. It will send out an email reminder. This is particularly helpful as sign up for October 11th will be available immediately following the September program.

It is also worth noting that Art Attack is open to ALL ages. Hopefully the change in day and time will make it possible for more adults to participate with or without children.

Also requiring registration is Hands on Science on the 2nd Monday of the month at 3:30 pm. Technically registration is required the Monday before the event; however, given the delay in promotion and the fact that next week Monday, September 8th is the first one, no registration is required for next week. Rather everyone ages 5-18 are welcome to give it a go. After school snacks will be provided and the registration process will be demonstrated for anyone interested in a little help.

The book club for ages 9-13 will return on the 3rd Monday of the month at 3:30 and has been renamed Not Your Average Book Club. The September title, Old School by Gordon Korman, is available for checkout at the library. Participants will have a snack (Notice the theme for Mondays?) and participate in an activity related to the book.

The final change to reoccurring programs is the addition of 1st Friday Games. Yes, we are latching on to an East Troy tradition only ours will be inside and run 3:15-4:30. The library has a store of board games which Miss Maria will supplement with games available for checkout from other libraries in the Prairie Lakes Library System. No registration is required, nor is an actual family. It could also be Friend Games. Start of the first weekend of the month with some fun. And probably snacks.

Disclaimer: The library is closed the first Friday of October for the East Troy Lion’s Classic Car Show. That month 1st Friday Family Games will be on the 2nd Friday. I know, what can you do?

Next week, adult programs.

Reading Now: When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi

Listening to Now: The Women by Kristin Hannah (This is the September Adult Book Club title)
