October, Part 3 will focus on fundraising as there are 3.5 of them giving you lots of choices to support the library.
The East Troy House has been a generous host to Connie Gehl’s BINGO nights. Our Friends of the East Troy Lions Public Library have been the beneficiary of her donations program twice in the past year. Our third and final time will be on Tuesday, October 6th beginning at 6:00pm. Gehl will be retiring at the end of the month. However, there will be a new BINGO caller stepping in. Money from this and other smaller fundraisers will go into the Friends’ building fund.
The larger October Friends fundraiser is the annual fall play.
Murder on the Menu will be performed at the Honey Creek Collective the second and third weekends of the month (October 9-11, October 16-18). Mary Nugent is once again directing Off the Square Players in this production which returns us to the cozy mystery genre. I understand the murder victim will spend some time with his face in a plate of mashed potatoes.
Tickets are on sale at the library for $20.00 each. We accept cash, check, and card.
The play is the Friends largest fundraiser of the year. Ticket sales cover the majority of our Summer and Winter Reading Program expenses. The funds also pay for our experiences passes. This year they are bringing back the pie auction first held three years ago at Murder at the Pie Auction. We decided mashed potatoes wouldn’t sell as well. Those funds will be used for the nearly 200 annual checkouts for animal, plant, and trolley visits made by our patrons each year. Passes cover 8, 5, or 6 people making the number of actual patrons visiting much larger.
To that end, we are looking for bakers, specifically of pies. There are six performances and they would like three pies for each. Contact the library at 262-642-6262 or Lori at 414-588-3788 if interested. We’d also gladly accept cookie bakers for the pre-show/intermission bake sale. All baked goods may be dropped off at the library.
Earlier this year, the Friends made the commitment to holding their performances the second and third weekends in October, so plan ahead for next year as well.
The final fundraiser may also involve mashed potatoes if you like shepherd’s pie. Our fundraising committee is reaching out to local restaurants asking them to pick a month for a ETLPL night. Kelly’s Pot Pies is kicking us off with an entire week. During October 19-24, they will donate 10% of their sales to the library’s building fund. They have delicious pot pies. I’m a poultry girl and will buy one for my freezer. Staff have recommended the taco pot pie, so that one will go in my oven. I’m debating which dessert will go to my hips. Clean your freezers out not to prepare.
