Yes, December is Next Month

I can’t believe it’s November.

On Sunday night I viewed a video of English comedian Michael McIntyre answering this frequently uttered statement. His response was, “Yes, you see we’ve had all the other months.” It was my first thought when on Monday a patron was the first person I heard make a similar statement. I smiled, but refrained from sharing his answer as I feel it too.

November arranging to pick up my daughter from college (big smile) and being a bit hypocritical by setting up the Christmas book display (not a fan of Christmas music beginning on November 1st). Seemingly endless boxes were brought out of storage this week so they may be available for checkout over the next six weeks or so. It is necessary, however, as we don’t have shelf space to leave them out year-round. The books, movies, and music CDs are now available for checkout. The decorations remain in storage.

The Friends play is also holiday themed beginning with Black Friday and moving into Christmas so I might as well embrace the madness and write about our December programming.

Miss Maria is kicking off the month with an Alice in Wonderland themed Tea Party at noon on Monday, December 1st. The ETCSD has teacher inservice that day. Registration is required and available through the Events page on our website or at the library. This event is meant for children ages 3-11 and their caregiver. They are encouraged to wear their holiday clothes and bring a doll or stuffie.

We are kicking off the Winter Reading Program with Wrap It Up! Miss Anna, Miss Connie and I will be wrapping holiday gifts for anyone who doesn’t wish to do so for themselves. We will happily take donations of wrapping paper, ribbons, or cash, but the service is free. Many size boxes have been filling up our storage room should an odd shaped gift need one. There will be music an perhaps snacks as well. We’ll be here ready to wrap 1:00-3:00 on Tuesday, December 16th and 5:00-7:00 on Wednesday, December 17th.

Your public library: Giving you a reason not to procrastinate on holiday shopping.

ETCSD is also closed December 22nd through January 2nd. The library will be taking days off for the holidays as well: December 24th, 25th, 31st and January 1st. We will also hold two family programs while the children are off school. December 22nd at 1:30 we will show a holiday film. Miss Maria has not selected one yet, so stay tuned. Life Size Candy Land will return 1:00-3:00 on December 29th & 30th. If you missed it last year, you’ll want to put it on your calendar now.

Now back to our regularly scheduled November.

Reading Now: Follow the River by James Alexander Thom (November Adult Book Club selection.)

Listening to Now: The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas (This will take awhile at 52 hours, but so far I like it.)
