The ETLPL has been hosting a resident dinosaur, George, for the summer reading program. Several of his friends are expected to visit the week of July 20-24.

In honor of the dinosaur theme, Unearth a Story, George’s Stegosaurus, Ankylosaurus, and T-Rex friends sent their RSVPs to assist us with the family program on Monday, July 20^th Jurassic Golf. Strictly speaking only Stegosaurus lived in that time period and Pterodactyl who has yet to confirm. In fairness, Steg’s trip from Colorado is much shorter than Pterodactyl’s flight across the Atlantic Ocean. Thankfully the others understand not everyone is an archeologist or geologist, and some of us have difficulty remembering when the dodo bird was last seen.

I can almost promise July 20^th will be beautiful as our mini golf course will be set up inside. Tee off begins at 1:30 and runs until 3:00. Golfers may arrive and leave at any time while the course if open. Participants are asked to be careful on the fairway as at least one of the dinosaurs is nesting. It is anticipated we’ll see hatchlings sometime that week, perhaps that day.

Due to the uncertain hatch time and long distances travelled, everysaurus will stay for the Friday, July 24^th Tea Rex Party. Obviously, T-Rex is feeling very pleased by the program’s name. It went a long way toward reconciling him to the whole Jurassic Golf era issue. (If we hadn’t already printed the materials, we could rename it Era’s Golf? They could wear Taylor Swift t-shirts.)

At the Tea Rex Party, Miss Maria will serve tea and dinosaur shaped cookies. In addition to art projects, participants will make their own Geological Dirt Cake with various layers and gummy dinosaurs. Attendees are encouraged to dress for the theme in dinosaur costumes or clothes. Each will receive a silk dinosaur bow tie. Sizing is adjustable. Library staff just has to perfect our bow tying skills. Thank goodness for YouTube videos. So far, we have one ready. The bow ties are theirs to keep following the party.

Children who adopted a dinosaur when signing up for the summer reading program are encouraged to bring their hatchlings to these events.
