October Programming, Part IV

October Part 4 reminds me of the Red Queen trilogy, which has four books in the series. This article will describe two take away programs, two come when you can programs and a cooking demonstration.

In February, Miss Maria applied to be a participant in the Wisconsin Science Festival produced by the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and the Morgridge Institute for Research. This is actually the second time she has applied; the first, we were accepted. This is the 15th year the three organizations have run this free program creating free science kits for families across the state. The kits contain instructions and supplies for several science projects related to various research projects being conducted across the state that year making each year’s backpack different.

The Wisconsin Science Festival runs October 15-25. We will make the backpacks available Thursday, October 15th. We are instructed to give them to adults and it is expected the kits will be used with kindergarten through high school students under their supervision. Supplies are limited as we have only 20 backpacks, so only one will be given to a family. Additional information including related live events taking place across the state can be found on their website at wisconsinsciencefest.org

Our Medicare related robo calls have slowed down, but not stopped. On October 16th from 3:00pm-5:00pm or October 26th from 10:00am-Noon I can ask Adam Collins from Collins Insurance Group if I really am missing out. While the insurance company is located in Hales Corners, Adam is an East Troy resident. He will be available those days to answer Medicare questions. Neither a purchase nor an appointment is necessary. Given how many benefits those calls have promised, I have questions. Especially as those promises were made to someone not on Medicare.

Our final adult program for October is Soup and Stock with Char. This cooking demonstration will also be held twice. Both will be on October 22nd. The 2:00pm program will be held at the East Troy Intergenerational Community Center. It will be repeated that night at the East Troy Lions Public Library at 6:00pm. Char Behm is interested in offering other cooking classes through the library. We will have a brief survey available for patrons feedback on what types of programs would be of interest.

BOO! at the Library will the be final family program for the month. On Friday, October 30th 2:30pm-4:00pm, Miss Maria will set up games and treats for a Halloween warm-up.

PS. I forgot the second take away program – October Spice Club is Caraway. Stop in for a recipe and enough spice to make it.
