After finishing the Summer Reading Program, the staff has turned its attention to many forms of recovery. Today’s article will be about the library’s physical holdings.

On our to do list is straightening books and finding the ones who went visiting shelves they don’t actually belong on. Think of the days after school starts or 16-year-olds start driving themselves and it’s worth picking up the toys or there is time to purge the pantry. That’s us right now plus making it look pretty.

Miss Brandy has taken back the shelves used by prizes and raffle boxes. The first display to go up was for Shark Week, which at this library lasts the month. The second was filling both sides of the new display unit located near the periodicals. Top shelf are books related to summer and beaches. The middle shelf is cooking and baking. I’m eyeing up the William Sonoma Pasta book. Soon to join those books are recent purchases on preserving. Holly Capelle’s Preserving the Seasons is a guide to canning, freezing, dehydrating, quick-pickling, and more. Each section also includes a few recipes. Taking it back a step, Stacy and Jeremy Hill’s Preserver’s Garden gives instructions on selecting the best vegetables to grow as well as how to preserve them. As part of the Library of Things, we have a Granite Ware water bath canner with rack available for checkout.

Looking to keep the kids occupied for a few more weeks? The bottom shelf is full of children’s cookbooks from the simple no cook to ethnic foods. After all, they’re less likely to complain about it if they made it.

Miss Brandy is also now known as LEGO Lady. She is not, in fact, made of LEGO’s nor is she a brand ambassador. To the best of my knowledge, her head doesn’t pop off either. She supervises LEGO Club every Wednesday at 3:15pm. The group of kids who have been coming this summer enjoy playing and building together. They have created a shared Village and create around it. They have requested additional LEGO’s specifically the flat boards to build upon. However, additional pieces for building would also be welcome.

For the record, LEGO’s have been added to our list of Please to Accept Donations. They join, not in any particular order, books for the Friends (keep them coming please), yarn and craft supplies, and funding for a new building.
