The ETLPL is hosting our first blood drive on Thursday, July 9th beginning at noon and running until 4:30pm.
Versiti Blood Centers contacted us in early May asking if we would be willing to host a blood drive this summer. Give our space and stairway issues, it didn’t seem likely; however, they have a mobile bus option that made it possible. They will take walkins, but anyone wishing to select a time slot should visit Versiti’s website and search for blood drives using the local zip code. That will show we are one of four East Troy organizations that said yes. If the afternoon on July 9th doesn’t fit your schedule there are Saturday morning drives scheduled for Honey Creek Collective and the East Troy Fire and Rescue the following weeks. Wisconsin Ovens is hosting a midday Tuesday in August.
We selected July 9th as there was already a Family Movie scheduled for 1:00pm that day. Parents wishing to donate may bring their children into the library for the movie and duck out to donate while it plays. The movie time slots are currently open. Our goal for this blood drive is 15 donations.
Next week we are celebrating the 250th with our Annual Children’s Parade on Monday, June 29th at 1:30pm. We’ll supply the decorations for bikes, scooters, etc. along with pinwheels, flags and temporary tatoos. The parade will begin around 1:50pm and end at the FFA Petting Zoo at Playmore Park at 2:00pm. Water and fruit snacks will be available at the end of the parade for participants.
Our celebrations will continue on Friday, July 3rd and Saturday July 4th elsewhere as the library is closed those days.
After the parade, June 29th is the next meeting of Not Your Average Book Club or NYABC for 9-13 year olds. This week they are “discussing” Cincinnati Lee, Curse Breaker by Heidi Heilig. Discussing is in quotations marks because for the most part that is the one activity they don’t do. There may be a thumbs up/down session, but usually a craft or game (and snack) fills the majority of their time together. Participants don’t have to finish the book to attend. The NYABC also meets on July 13, August 3 & 17 at 3:30. See our website for book titles or stop in to checkout a copy.
July is trivia month for Teen Thursdays. Teens are encouraged to bring a group of friends to create a team or perhaps the opposition. Teams can accumulate points each week toward a Grand Prize. (Truth be told, I don’t remember what the GP is. She did recently send me off to purchase full size candy bars and Gus’s gift cards. I’m thinking at least one of those purchases was for this event. After all, teens respond to food.)
