Join us in celebrating National Cereal Day on Monday, March 9th at 1:00pm. School is out, the boxes will be new and the milk will be cold.
Miss Maria is pairing a (delayed) celebration of National Cereal Day with a true childhood pastime, Saturday morning cartoons. I remember my little brother dragging me out of bed on Saturday morning so he could go downstairs to the darkened living room to watch television while Mom slept in. I felt so sorry for Wiley E Coyote. He just couldn’t catch a break. Now he’s a part of our cultural heritage. Just last week my grandson and I were watching a science video. The host decided to take a page from the Roadrunner and use Acme’s famous anvil in his test.
We won’t have anvils available, but Miss Maria will be serving cereal and playing Looney Toons and Scooby Doo cartoons. Viewers are welcome to come in the PJs with a pillow and stuffy in hand. Sleeping bags and blankets are also welcome. Registration is required by calling the library or following the link on our website/calendar by the afternoon of March 6th.
Currently, we are in debate regarding which cereals to buy. Froot Loops are guaranteed. I say a variety pack, but Miss Maria doesn’t think anyone would want Apple Jacks. Given the fact that is one of my two childhood favorites, I disagree. We’re looking for input. If you stop in the library, give your favorite sugary cereal a plug. If you follow us on Facebook, look for a post asking for suggestions. Corn Pops were my other favorite. It’s possible I only made it through childhood cavity free because my mother didn’t regularly keep them in stock.
New books have been delivered in a steady stream with our new vendor. An interesting one in the process of being cataloged is Forgotten Home Apothecary: 250 Powerful Remedies at Your Fingertips by Nicole Apelian Ph.D. Since the remedies often require fresh ingredients, this is the perfect time of year to check it out and make plans for spring planting.
Once it’s shelf ready, I’d like to personally deliver Messie Condo’s Nobody Wants Your Sh*t to a friend whose home I am helping to purge. As I near the end of downsizing my own home, I am also donating one day a month to mucking out hers. While the library owns a handful of more traditional books on decluttering, none of them provide the short and rather vulgar punch as this one. It may provide the kick I need to actually commit to one of my four sets of dishes and say goodbye to the rest.
